Local wildlife

Hoopoe – this striking bird has been seen close to our house.

Golden oriole – a shy bird that you may catch a glimpse of in the trees. The male has a beautiful song.

Swallowtail butterfly – this beautiful butterfly is an occasional visitor to our garden

Hummingbird hawk-moth – watch these fascinating moths feeding on the Valerian flowers outside the kitchen in May-June

Red squirrel – can be seen in the local area and one has been seen in our garden

Lizards – wall lizards are commonly seen running up and down walls. European green lizards (larger than wall lizards and a bright green) and fire salamanders (yellow and black) are sometimes seen.

Frogs – take a walk around the lanes in spring/summer and listen for the chorus of frogs in ponds. The European tree frog has been seen nearby.
